I have tried to wrap my head around the thinking of these people but I am unable to comprehend what makes them so absolutely wrong. It defies logic to a degree I have never witnessed before.

Like many Americans, I see our decline and worry about or loss of faith; I wonder if Jesus was referring to Western Europe and the United States when he said that many would lose their faith near the end.

When I read Isaiah, I see how much the God of the Bible hates the Iraqi’s (chapter 21, but really, that entire section,) and I understand why we need to be there. And I am glad that our troops are there to stand against terror and against people who looked at Sadaam fondly and with respect.

As a Christian I appreciate how important it is to stand against evil and to stand for what is right.

But do we add to our country by disrespecting those people who serve us? NO! Do we aid God? NO!, he desires that we repent, that we stuff gays back in the closet — true enough — but even this message is inappropriate at a time when gather to show respect for people who focused all they had to give so that we don’t have to lose our cities to hijacked planes.

The people at the Westboro church have a great deal in common with the terrorists; And I am a born-again Christian. If their ‘ministry’ were authentic, they would be *helping* too, and not tearing at the fabric of our nation. They would be helping single Mothers, working with the poor, and doing the many things we see happen in healthy churchs and also in small Christian groups. They would not be famous for spreading hate — but instead, they’d be famous for helping Americans think about what each of needs to do to repent.

Yes, America is in trouble. We need to repent. But the way to do that is to repent and not to disturb people who contribute the most to our nation.

I can’t do anything to stop what the Westboro church has already done. But I support your efforts against them, and I think these people will not be able to explain themselves to the God of the Bible.

And one more thing; Jesus does desire repentance — what they say is true. And not only for me, for you and others too. Including the people at the Westboro church — because they’ve made it more difficult for non-Christians to think about what it is to be a Christians and what Christians are like.
